VK Tremain’s Gift of Blood

What is paranormal romance?  You might think that it is a term to describe the relationship you had with your ex, but in fact, it is a literary subgenre of romance fiction.  VK Tremain is the pen name of two sisters, Virgina and Kristina, who write collaboratively.  VK specializes in this subgenre and is the author of the forthcoming novel Gift of Blood.

Jacqueline and Jeff’s Sweet Adventure in NOLA

Rebuilding Together in New Orleans (RTNO), a program of the Preservation Resource Center,  is “a continuing volunteer effort to  improve the quality of life of low-income homeowners through home repair and community revitalization.”

Besh Brings “Borgne” to NOLA

James Beard award-winning New Orleans chef, John Besh, announced recently that his next restaurant, Borgne, will be located in the revitalized Hyatt Regency New Orleans, which is set to re-open in October 2011.

Borgne will feature casual, coastal Louisiana seafood with a touch of Spanish influence, upholding Besh’s passion for utilizing local ingredients while incorporating the global flavors for which New Orleans is known.  Brian Landry, the longtime New Orleans native chef of Galatoire’s and most recently the consulting chef for Louisiana Seafood, will be the chef de cuisine.  Read the rest of this entry »

Good Nola, a “local website and organization dedicated to showcasing positive media about New Orleans”, is a good friend of 411 NOLA.  The driving force behind and the founder of Good Nola, Shercole, is a feisty femme who loves to shop.  (She is also the founder of Minority Weirdos, a media organization focused on fashion and food in the Southern Region.)

Recently 411 NOLA asked Shercole to give us the low- down on the low-priced goods to be found in local thrift stores.  Why?  There are so many reasons: 

  1. Everyone loves a bargain;
  2. If you are a New Orleanian, you are always looking for a costume;
  3. Many bargain hunters love to check out new thrift stores when they travel;
  4. It’s always fun to discover something new.
