A New Home for Jazz
The New Orleans Jazz National Historical Park is pleased to announce the Grand Opening of the Old U.S. Mint Performance Hall on November 12, 2011 from 1:30 p. m. to 5:00 p. m. The Performance Hall, located on the third floor of the Old U.S. Mint (400 Esplanade Ave.), is the result of an innovative partnership between the National Park Service and the Louisiana State Museum to bring a world classmusic venue home to the birthplace of jazz. The New Orleans Jazz NHP will sponsor educational jazz performances and other special events during the day, and the Louisiana State Museum will hold events and performances primarily during evening hours. 170 Years of Joy
According to its own website, “Since it’s dedication in 1842, St. Augustine has been a church of the free black citizens of New Orleans, welcoming both free and slave as worshippers. It continues today as a beacon of humanity and spirituality, both a history lesson and an example of 21st century Christianity in action.”
The church is well known around the world and is of special interest to history buffs, to spiritual seekers, and to cultural and musical enthusiasts. St. Augustine, as the church is commonly known, was established in 1841 and is a unique and enduring part of American history. This Sunday it celebrates its 170th anniversary with joy. Free Concert Series Feeds People Hungry for Good Music, Good Food, Good Art, and Good Times
In Louisiana, we don’t eat to live, we live to eat. For us, food is more than something to eat. It borders on being a sacrament, and life itself is the celebration.
Unfortunately, one in eight people is struggling with hunger in our community. Because food and life are valued so highly here, Hancock Bank and Whitney Bank have teamed up with the Second Harvest Food Bank to fight hunger by staging a fun(d)raiser that is all NOLA.
