Foodies Discuss Sustainability

In New Orleans, we  favor real flavor.  Our best cooks and chefs use  fresh produce, meats, and dairy products in their dishes.  That being so, it was natural for the Chef’s Collaborative National Summit on sustainable food lifestyles to be held here in the Big Eaty (pun intended).

Besh Brings “Borgne” to NOLA

James Beard award-winning New Orleans chef, John Besh, announced recently that his next restaurant, Borgne, will be located in the revitalized Hyatt Regency New Orleans, which is set to re-open in October 2011.

Borgne will feature casual, coastal Louisiana seafood with a touch of Spanish influence, upholding Besh’s passion for utilizing local ingredients while incorporating the global flavors for which New Orleans is known.  Brian Landry, the longtime New Orleans native chef of Galatoire’s and most recently the consulting chef for Louisiana Seafood, will be the chef de cuisine.  Read the rest of this entry »

Live to Eat for Free at Loyola

New Orleans is unlike any other city in the world, and for lovers of great food, it’s a little slice of heaven. This is why Loyola University New Orleans is proud to celebrate the Crescent City’s flair for food by presenting NolaLoyola 2011: Live to Eat, Sept. 30.  The day’s events begin at 9:00 a. m. on Loyola’s main campus with panel papers and discussions revolving around the city’s food culture. It culminates at 7:30 p. m. with a panel discussion in Nunemaker Auditorium featuring iconic food figures Leah Chase of Dooky Chase Restaurant, JoAnn Clevenger of Upperline Restaurant, and Ti Martin of Commander’s Palace.
